VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -  A Valdosta man is now jailed for the murder of his 17-year-old former girlfriend. The young mother of two toddlers was found dead and partially buried in a yard Wednesday.

Authorities are not sure what led to the murder of Brittany Wade.  21-year-old Jonathan Barrett has been charged with murdering 17-year-old Brittany Wade.

"She was partially buried in the backyard and so it appears that he buried her," said Commander Gene Bell, Valdosta Police Department.

One family member says Brittany was visiting her two young children in Barrett's aunt's house near Bunche street, where she was killed.

Family members say Barrett was a former boyfriend of Wade. But they're unsure what pushed him over the edge to commit this crime.

Police will not release how exactly she was killed nor the motive until her body is returned from the crime lab in Atlanta.

"There may have been an argument which led to an altercation which led to the homicide," said Bell.

Wade was working at Wild Adventures while getting her GED. Her cousin Nakiuma Wade recalls one of the last moments she spoke to her.  "I asked her if she wanted me to come see her at Wild Adventures and she said come on and bring the kids."

She also remembers her as a young teenage mom getting her life together.  "She like a lot of teenage kids liked to talk on the cell phone liked to get dressed and was real girlish."

This is the fourth murder in the City of Valdosta this year.  Barrett is being held at the Lowndes County Jail. Brittany Wade's Children are ages 2 and 3.
