ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  Another Albany gang member is now charged with murder in the initiation beating death of a former prison guard.

He's the ninth person to be charged in this case that police say is violence by the Black Gangsta Disciples.

Police say 32-year-old Corey Jackson is the latest member of the Black Gangsta Disciples arrested and charged in the murder of 33-year-old Reginald Richardson. Jackson and the man Police say is the head of that gang made their first appearance before a Judge Wednesday morning, along with his girlfriend.

Under heavy guard, bound in handcuffs and leg irons, the man police say is the leader of Albany's Black Gangsta Disciples, Gregory Marshall, stood quietly before Judge Robert Revell.

He was told he is charged with murder and gang participation and other charges in the June 23rd death of Reginald Richardson.

Also making his first appearance was Corey Jackson, also charged with murder and gang participation. Jackson was well known as an outstanding Dougherty High running back in the 90's, but police say is well known to them as a Black Gangsta Disciple gang member.

APD Detective Cliff Hawkins said, "We were able after interviewing Gregory Marshall to determine Corey Jackson's involvement in the homicide also, and he was arrested yesterday."

Marshall and Jackson are the latest of six men now charged with murder and gang participation, for the beating death of Reginald Richardson. Police say he died from the beating he received initiating him into the Gangstas.

People from the South Albany neighborhoods where the BGD's live say they are glad to see the gang arrests.

"Need to clean this community up," said Clayton Dunlap.

"They need to clean this city up," Bob White said. "It'll be real nice if they clean this up and break this gang up."

Also making her first appearance was 20-year-old Mildred Morris, charged with obstruction. Law enforcement agents tell us Morris is Marshall's girlfriend, and is expecting his child.

Police say Morris lied to them when they raided the house she lives in on South Mock Tuesday, and then tried to stop them from arresting Marshall. With her arrest, that is now nine people arrested and charged in connection to the Richardson death, but police say they are not done.

"We will make more arrests in this incident,"  Hawkins said.

The murder was almost a month ago, and Police say they are still getting information from the community helping them.

Police say Corey Jackson is a criminal justice graduate from the University of Georgia. He was arrested at his job as a mechanic late yesterday afternoon.
