ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  A 20 year old man, Jordan Norton,  is accused of shooting and killing his step father and wounding his mother Tuesday night.

The family was staying at a Tift County campground and that's where the shootings happened.

The Pines campground is normally a quiet place where campers come and go, so the gunshots were startling.

Kenneth Scarbarry says he's gotten used to having new neighbors after living at the Pine Campground in Tifton for over five months.

So when a family of three pulled their camper into the park Tuesday, he says he didn't think much of it. "My son came up here and they told him they were cooking out and he said the food smelled good, and he might be back to get him some, and they told him to come back and get some, they seemed like friendly people," he said.

But neighbors say when it started to get dark the family of three erupted into some sort of domestic dispute.

A witness who wishes to remain anonymous says he heard yelling and walked outside his camper to see what was going on. "I seen the guy pulled the gun on the boy and I called the cops and told them, and I just called the cops."

The witness says Jordan ran from his step father over to a nearby camper and said he was scared before running off to a nearby gas station.

"About 20 minutes later he came back, the dad threw the gun on the floor the boy came back and I heard shots, someone he told me he shot his dad and mom."

Police are charging Jordan with shooting to death his 54-year-old step father Charles Norton and wounding his 40 year old mother Julia Norton in the thigh.

"It was a surprise because this place is supposed to be quiet people come here to stay here and you don't know what's going in or coming out," said Scarbarry.

Police spent plenty of time searching for Jordan, but he was arrested when he returned to the scene following the shootings.

Tift county authorities say Jordan Norton will be charged with Murder and Aggravated assault. He is currently being held at the Tift county Jail. Jordan Norton's mother, Julia, is hospitalized with a gunshot wound to her thigh.
