Colquitt County - It's a beauty pageant that raises self esteem and money for foster children.

Last year, 15-year-old Heather Gilman of Sylvester was crowned the first Miss Heart of Southwest Georgia. Gilman was in her first pageant at age four and recently started again. She says she enjoyed mingling with foster children during the pageant. She says, "I think this really raised their self esteem because they know if someone like me can do it, they can do it too. It makes them feel better about themselves."

Gilman has won ten out of a dozen pageants in the past few years. She will host this year's Miss Heart of Southwest Georgia Pageant in Colquitt County on February first. The deadline to sign up is January 18th and open to all counties.

Last year, they raised more than $3,000 for Colquitt County foster children through the Foster Parent Support Group.
