Valdosta - The American Red Cross is extending its hours to help with the emergency appeal for blood.

The Valdosta donor center has set a goal of collecting 20 units every day this week. Red Cross officials say if their inventory doesn't increase, it could result in the loss of a life.

"We've had a pretty good turnout today, but we still need more so that's why we've extended the hours," said Kathy Dallas, American Red Cross District Director.  "Hopefully with the new longer hours, everyone can spare a little time to come in and donate."

The Valdosta donor center has extended its hours to 8 to 6 Wednesday and Friday, 10:30 to 7 Thursday, and 11 to 3 Saturday.
