ALBANY, GA (WALB) - To remember an Albany cheerleader who often gave of herself to the community, you can give some of yourself in her memory.
This week a blood drive is being held in memory of Sara Underdown. She died a week ago after battling non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. During her struggle with the disease, she often underwent blood and platelet transplants.
The summer months are when donations are at their lowest, and donors often are busy and forget to take time to stop in and give blood. Andrew Leverett said, "We do hope for a big turnout. Sara did a lot for the community. She gave of her time to help better the community, so we hope citizens will come out and give a little of their time to save another life."
You can donate blood or platelets at the American Red Cross donor center on Dawson road in Albany any day this week.
