ALBANY, GA (WALB) -Albany Police Officers roll up their sleeves and give back to the community.

More than a dozen officers took part in A.P.D.'s second annual community blood drive.

The blood drive was in honor of Detective Tim Harvey, and he was one of the officers donating blood to the American Red Cross this morning.

Harvey was shot by a man he was attempting to question last year, and many officers donated blood then for him. Now he is glad to give back.

Albany Police Detective Tim Harvey said "It feels great. I know it's something important. I know lots of times they have a shortage of blood. It's something doctors say could have saved my life during the time, and could have saved a lot of people's lives. It's something we really need to do."

During the summer months the American Red Cross struggles to keep blood supplies satisfied, so Albany Police hope to make this an annual event.
