ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Police Department is holding a blood drive Friday, in honor of one of their officers whose life was saved by blood donations last year.

The APD Blood drive is in honor of Detective Tim Harvey, who was shot while on patrol in Albany last year by a man he was stopping to question. Harvey needed a lot of blood for his successful surgery, and his fellow officers want to give back.

Albany Police Spokesperson Phyllis Banks Whitley said "Tim's incident really opened out eyes to the importance of giving blood. Because major accidents, major injuries liked occurred with Tim, we know in those type of incidents blood is needed."

The Albany Police Blood Drive will be from 9 to 2 Friday at the Law Enforcement Center on Oglethorpe Boulevard in Downtown Albany. Everyone is asked to come donate blood and help the community need.

If you would like to make a reservation you can call 483-6298.
