THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - A Thomasville man is charged with child cruelty after police say he beat his child multiple times with a branch.

Police say 29-year-old Levon Griffin's 8-year-old daughter was living with him this summer at his home off Cassidy Road in Thomasville.

They say Monday she disobeyed him and he took her punishment too far.

Investigators say Griffin whipped the girl multiple times with a tree branch all over her body causing bruises and bleeding.

The child's mother called police.

When police went to question Griffin Tuesday, he ran from them.

He was later arrested and charged with cruelty to a child, obstruction and probation violation.
