Bold smash and grab

By Wainwright Jeffers - bio | email

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - There was a bold smash and grab at an Albany convenience store.

Four men got away with thousands of dollars, and they took an entire ATM with them.

Bold thieves knew exactly what they were after at the Albany Deli and Food Mart.

"They threw a big concrete brick, it was pretty heavy," said Sing.

After burglar alarms were set off business owner Jolly Singh rushed to his store and called police.

"I got here and opened up the door and I showed them the tape like you see," said Sing.

Take a look as 4 masked men appear in clear view of the camera, smash the glass window and quickly grab the ATM.

"They were gone in 13 seconds," said Sing.

As quickly as they came they were gone with close to $2,000 in cash.

"It was four guys, let's say there's $500 in there for each I don't think it's worth it," Said sing."

It's the second time in his two years as a business owner he's been a victim.

"Last time I got robbed at gunpoint," said Sing.

That was in August of last year.

"I didn't have any security camera at that time," said Sing "But right after within a week I got it, right now I got like 15 or 16 cameras," Sing.

An expensive investment.

"It's a bit expensive, but it's worth it," said Sing.

Cameras that will help him protect his business and customers.

"I guess I never thought anything like that would happen, I guess we have to be careful now," said Sing.

And now his investment may help catch the robbers who took that ATM.

"They dropped it outside too, you can see the mark outside," said Sing.

Now he hopes someone recognizes the thieves before they strike again.

Sing is hopeful insurance will cover the damages and money in the machine.

So far no arrests have been made.
