An Albany pastor died just before the stroke of midnight New Years Eve. And It happened just minutes after he delivered a powerful sermon.
62-year-old James Polite was the preacher at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Albany and Friendship Baptist in Chula. He was a guest preacher at Weldon Springs for their Watch Night Service New Years Eve. He finished his sermon about the power of the word of God, collapsed in a chair, and died of a heart attack. His brother, also an Albany pastor, got word of his brother's death as he was about to start his own sermon.
Rev. Raymond Polite said, "If I had to choose a way to exit this earth, I would want to do it the way my brother did, preaching the word of the lord."
Polite ended his sermon telling the congregation he had many things left to say, but his time was wearing thin. His brother thinks that meant he knew God was calling him to heaven.
Funeral services for the pastor will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church.
