ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It's the most important stretch of the season and the South Georgia Wildcats are bolstering the roster for the playoff push.
The Wildcats just completed four transactions with the AF2 on Thursday.
The biggest name is five year veteran Mel Long. The LB/WR was an all-AF2 selection last season with the Austin Wranglers and had over 1,000 yards recieving.
Former Albany State Ram Jason Marshall will help patch the Wildcats defensive line with DE Tito Hannah on injured reserve for the remainder of the regular season.
Starting fullback Victor Mann is out for the season and will be replaced by his cousin Trae Ivory who played fullback for Head Coach Rodney Blackshear in Lubbock last season.
The Wildcats have also found a new kicker. Five year vet and former Tennessee Volunteer Alex Walls will replace Jared Guberman.
All 4 roster additions will be eligible for Saturday's game with Florida.
"It's gonna be an immediate impact. Even with the kicker we expect from what he's done in practice this week we expect a much better kick off coverage just because we'll get the ball to the net. With Mel he's a veteran. He knows the game and I think he's gonna bring a lot of fire and intensity to the defense" said Blackshear.
The new players will try to help South Georgia snap a three game losing streak Saturday.
"We needed them obviously with the injuries alone just the bodies alone we needed them and then we're able to get the caliber players that we were able to get this late in the year is a plus."
South Georgia and Florida kick off at 7:30 Saturday at the Albany Civic Civic Center. With a win the Wildcats clinch a spot in the playoffs.
