Food giveaway in Albany

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - As people continue to struggle in this economy, hundreds of boxes of food were given away in South Albany Thursday. The Food bank of Southwest Georgia gave out boxes of food and frozen chickens outside Monroe High School.

For Roosevelt Leverette, who is disabled, this food will help him fill in the gaps that his disability check just doesn't cover.  He said, "I can't make it all through the month and this is a big help and a blessing from God for me."

Nellie Robinson said, "I think this is a good thing that they did for us, to give us a little food." Food Bank worker Tony Hall said, "It's always a good feeling to know that you've helped someone else and hopefully, you pray and hope that with the help that we gave them that they would give help to someone else that is in need."

Volunteers for Sherwood Baptist Church helped give out the food. The Food bank hopes to distribute food in Albany two more times this month and cover all twenty counties it serves soon.
