DOWNTOWN ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It took a lot of preparation to get ready for that big fireworks show tonight.

Since six Saturday morning, workers were busy behind the Albany Civic Center connecting all the complicated wires and fuses for the fireworks display.

In all, About 2,200 shots were fired, and the show lasted more than 30 minutes.

The show hasn't been canceled in 15 years.

"The only time we did cancel it was in 1994 when we had the flood and we didn't know it was coming," said Dale Henry, Fireworks Organizer.

The show went off without a hitch.

The director says all together the celebration will run the city about $30,000.
