ALBANY, GA (WALB) - More than 12 thousand South Georgians are starting the Fourth of July celebration early.
The Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base's Independence Day celebration is underway.
One of the largest Fourth of July events in South Georgia offers food, games for the kids, the Marine Band, and a huge fireworks show. The Silver Wings Parachute team will perform a jump at 6:30. And best of all, it's free.
Lt. Caleb Eames said "This is a good place to come out and enjoy a time when they don't have any expenses. The rock wall and the bouncy houses for the kids are absolutely free. Admission is free. Of course plenty of food and drinks on hand. Fireworks at the end of the night. It's going to be a great time for all."
You have to go onto the base at the main entrance on Fleming Road. You can't bring any weapons or knives, coolers, or pets, but lawn chairs or blankets are recommended. Officials say one of the biggest fireworks shows they have ever had will get underway a little after 9 Thursday night.
