ADEL, GA (WALB) -  Gunshots were fired at officers during a drug raid in Cook County before daybreak Thursday. They suspected the man inside, Roger Dale Collins, would have a gun, and he did.

Thankfully, no one was hit when he fired on officers. Police confiscated drugs, guns and a lot of cash.

The SWAT team filed into their vehicles after a detailed briefing took place.  "It takes a couple days to plan and make sure all the steps are covered," said Corporal Chris Griffin.

As officers filed into Roger Collin's mobile home at 806 Ben Street in the Whidby Trailer Park, Collins shot one round from a .380 handgun he had in his bed.

No one was harmed when that round was fired. Police immediately took the offender into custody. He is now incarcerated at the Cook County Jail.

Investigators combed through Collin's belongings, even bringing in a K-9 unit to look for drugs. Their efforts paid-off as they found a siginificant amount of evidence.  "Marijuana, items to distribute the marijuana such as scales and baggies, as well as two firearms," were collected, said Griffin.

While money from drug sales was hidden beneath magazines on the coffee table, the drugs were a different story.

"The majority of the marijuana was actually just lying in plain view on the coffee table in the living room," said Griffin.

Police remained on the scene into the morning hours, making sure every piece of evidence was found. With drugs being a growing problem in Adel, police say they will take whatever steps necessary to take dealers off the streets.

This wasn't Roger Collins' first run-in with the law. He is a convicted felon with a lengthy list of drug convictions.
