THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Blood donations are down drastically at the Southeastern community blood center in Thomasville.
They're trying to change that. So for the month of July, if you donate blood, you get a prize.
Starting July 1st if you donate blood at the Thomasville center, you'll leave with a beach towel. You also get to enter a drawing to win a trip to a water park in Destin, Florida. Blood donations are down 10% this year compared to last year.
"We're really experiencing a dramatic blood shortage. Just about every blood type there has been a one day supply and we need an adequate four to five day supply for all our hospitals. We're beginning to think it has to do with the economic situation," said Joye Sandefur with the Southeastern Community Blood Center.
For the first time in the center's history, they'll be open on the fourth of July from 9-1. At the Cairo Wal-Mart they will also set up a bloodmobile on the 4th. If you give blood there, you get a 10 dollar Wal-Mart gift card.
