AMERICUS , GA (WALB) - Sumter Regional Hospital is now officially Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.

Officials held a small ceremony to mark the changeover after the Georgia Attorney General's Office approved a lease agreement between the two.

Phoebe Sumter will continue to operate at its current temporary location until a new hospital is built at the intersection of Highways 19 and 280.

Phoebe agreed to pay at least $25 million toward that construction as part of the deal to take over the hospital.

The old Sumter Regional was destroyed by a tornado in 2007.
