ALBANY, GA (WALB) - With recent gang related crimes Albany Police Department's Gang Unit busy.

The unit was formed last year with a mission to get gang activity under control in Albany.

Six months in, a Lieutenant in that unit says they are making good on that promise.

Gang members are committing numerous and serious crimes, in just the past two weeks the gang unit has made 36 arrests.

Ten of the suspects are charged with gang participation.

"Gang participation is a felony, and any other crime which takes place in lieu of that becomes a felony," said Lt. Tony Moore, Albany Police Gang Task Force.

The unit will be at full force next week with the addition of three more investigators.

The unit will then include 12 members.
