    Information from The Georgia Department of Labor- The Georgia Department of Labor says Metro Albany's unemployment rate increased to 8.7 percent in June, up three-tenths of a percentage point from 8.4More >>
    The rate increased because of seasonal factors, such as the summer job loss among non-contract school workers and temporary layoffs, primarily in manufacturing. There were 60,500 jobs in Albany in June, down by 300, or 0.5 percent, from 60,800 in May. Most of the loss came in state government and the service-related industries.More >>

Dougherty County -- One of the Dougherty County Police Department's top investigators will lead another department at the first of the Year.

Thirty-two-year-old Lt. Scott Gore is preparing to leave Dougherty County to become police Chief in Adel. A native of Huntsville, Gore is a graduate of Auburn University and received his Masters' at Columbus State University.

Gore has worked in law enforcement for 11 years, 9 with the Dougherty County Police. This will be his first Chief's job. Gore said "Yes, it's a good size department. I've heard nothing but praise from the law enforcement community as far as the officers who work there, and the jobs that they do."

The Adel police department has 21 employees.
