VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Thursday night, the City of Valdosta will approve their budget for the next fiscal year.

Valdosta's new budget did not take a severe hit from the economy.  The budget, which will take effect July 1st, will be 85 million dollars--just $100,000 less than last year's.

However, the city's general fund, for services like police and fire departments, will see a significant decrease.

"When we looked at our various revenue sources, some of those have gone slightly, like the sales tax is down about 5-7%.  We had to adjust our expenses down to live within those revenues," says Valdosta City Manager Larry Hanson.

Though the city's general fund is down, Valdosta will be investing more money than ever before on capital investments such as roads, parks, and a new waste water treatment plant.
