ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  New numbers show South Georgia's jobless rate dropped slightly last month, but Albany's made a jump.

South Georgia's unemployment rate dropped a tenth of a percentage point, from 9.3 to 9.2.

Georgia's number of unemployed workers is at an all-time high. The current unemployment rate is 9.7-percent.

In Albany, the unemployment rate actually increased from 8.4 percent in April, to 9.1 percent in May.

And it's likely to continue to rise. 850 employees have already been handed the pink slip at Cooper Tire. Thursday, another round of hundreds of layoffs is scheduled.
