ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Alltel users in Southwest Georgia will soon get service through different provider.

Last year, Verizon agreed to buy Alltel wireless in $28 Billion deal, but Verizon wasn't able to buy the Alltel network in Southwest Georgia.

That's because they already have such a large presence here. Instead, Atlantic Tele-Network will take over the network in our area around the end of this year.

District Manager Byron Williams said, "Ultimately, customers need choice and everybody needs to be able to hold their wireless provider accountable for providing excellent customer service and when you reduce competition, it kind of limits that ability."

Alltel customers may have a new name for their provider, but the service is expected to be the same. Your current contract will not be affected.
