ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  The hottest items thieves are stealing in Albany right now are air conditioners. Since the record breaking heat wave, lots of window air conditioners are disappearing.

Security Locksmith on Newton Road was one of at least four homes and businesses reporting Tuesday window air conditioners being stolen. They nailed a board over the window where it was missing.

Dillard's Eye Clinic on North Jefferson was another theft victim.

"Actually they never came in the building that we could tell. All they did was kind of take the air conditioning unit out of the window and kept on going,"  said Office Manager Merry Huisman.

Dillard's Eye Clinic will replace the air conditioner, but put security bars over the next one. Albany Police arrested 21-year-old Zequarium Hightower for burglary, after a friend reported him to Police when he showed up at their house with a stolen air conditioner.
