ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Hundreds of Methodists are in Albany this week for the Annual Christian Methodist Episcopal Church conference.

About 400 people are expected to attend the conference at Hines Memorial Church in Albany. Bishop Othal Hawthorne spoke to ministers and lay people Tuesday about how the church helped to bring about change with the election of President Obama.

Bishop Lakey said, "I would like to think that our struggles through the years for justice and equality have had a positive impact so that the American people at least for this period of time, laid aside some of its traditional racism and concerns." The conference runs through Friday.
