Dougherty County - Property taxes were due Friday in Dougherty County, and if you didn't turn in your money, you'll be paying more later.

From now until January 20th, you'll have to pay one percent interest. After that, it goes up again to two percent interest. The hefty fines start in March with an added 10 percent penalty plus three percent interest.

Property taxes sent by mail needed a U-S Postal Service postmark dating December 20th or earlier to avoid extra costs.

Another reminder for homeowners, if you purchased a home this year, make sure you file a Homestead Exemption form by June.
