VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Two weeks ago Valdosta State head coach David Dean says recruiting never stops. And for a Blazer team that is short on quarterbacks, the Blazers have found some arms for the position.

the big news for Valdosta State is that former Indiana quarterback Kellen Lewis is transferring to the Blazers.

The Jacksonville, Florida native started three seasons at quarterback for Indiana and was second team all-Big Ten his sophomore season.

He was moved to receiver this spring but then dismissed from the Hoosier football team for violating a team rule.

Lewis will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Kellen Lewis is not the only new quarterback.

Valdosta State has also signed Jimmy Coy from El Camino Junior College in California and back in February signed high school quarterbacks Brett Whitmire and Steven Warren.

Coach David Dean also says Russ Callaway, the starter during spring, could be back on the field in late August after suffering a knee injury during the spring ball.

David Dean said. "We have got four guys who have got the opportunity to come in and compete with the guys that we have. Hopefully we are going to get Russ Callaway back from his injury. He is way ahead of where he should be. Then of course we have got Ronnye Nelson coming back and Austin Roberts. Our quarterback situation is going to be pretty good."

Valdosta State also has added defensive tackel Tommie Duhart from Pittsburgh.

Valdosta State opens the season at home against Newberry College on August 29th.
