VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

It's not every weekend Valdosta State football coach David Dean can scout hundreds of high school players in his backyard.

Coach Dean held his passing camp Saturday afternoon at Bazemore Hyder Stadium. 27 High Schools from Florida and Georgia took place in 7 on 7 passing competition all day. Coach Dean says the camp gives him a chance to see recruits in a much different perspective.

"We get a chance to evaluate them live, see how their attitude is mixing and mingling with their teammates and how they keep pushing when the heats starting to hit on them and they play four or five games. You really get a good look at their heart which you don't get to see a lot of the times when you're going through the recruiting process" said Dean.

Valdosta State will kick off the 2009 season at home August 29th at 7:00 against Newberry.
