Albany man arrested for wire theft

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -Albany and Dougherty County Police capture a copper wire thief who had been on the run since last week.

37-year old Randy Webb was captured at his home on Sylvester Road about 3:30 Wednesday when investigators went back to check for more evidence.

Last week a Georgia Power employee spotted Webb stealing copper wire from a power pole in the 100 block of Georgia Power Road.

Police searched his home and found wire stolen from Georgia Power and AT&T.

Investigators say Webb's thefts knocked out telephone service and endangered people.

Dougherty County Police Captain Jimmy Sexton said "The impact that he had was a lot more than the fact that he stole telephone cables and temporarily cut out service. There is potential there for someone to die because of what he did."

Investigators say Webb stole thousands of dollars worth of copper electrical and telephone wires.

He is in the Dougherty County jail on theft and criminal damage charges.
