Woman's Government Debit Card stolen

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Here's a warning for anyone with a debit card: Make sure you don't make it easy for thieves to steal from you.

That's a lesson Devanna Osborne learned the hard way. A visitor to her home, stole her Direct Express Debit card--one that's issued by the government. It's the card her disability money is loaded onto.

Not only did that visitor steal the card, he figured out that she used some obvious numbers as her pin, and took out $400 at an ATM. She now knows that was a bad idea and is having to go through lots of red tape to get reimbursed.

Osborne said, "Do not use any numbers that are easy for a person to figure out. Don't use your social, or your address or anything of that nature. Use something that maybe no one would ever even think about."

Osborne says she was planning to use the money that was stolen to pay for necessities like rent and groceries.
