COLQUITT COUNTY, GA (WALB) - A South Georgia teacher will hold a prestigious honor for the next year.  It's one she'll cherish for a lifetime.

Colquitt County High School teacher Gwen Desselle is Georgia's 2010 Teacher Of The Year. A reception was held in her honor at the high school Monday night.

The history teacher has spent 32 years in education. Her motivation comes from those she calls her extended family.

"My students," said Desselle, "I love those kids. I truly love those kids. The drive me crazy some days ok? But they make me laugh and I just take such pride in them when they accomplish things, especially when they pass the graduation test. For some kids that's so hard."

State School Superintendent Kathy Cox was on hand for the reception. Desselle will travel the state over the next year as a spokesperson and representative for Georgia public schools.
