ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Dougherty County Police Officer who shot a dog was justified in doing so, according his supervisors.

Officer Rodney Wells, who has been with DCP, shot a dog at a trailer park on Pine Bluff Road last week.

Wells was answering a call when a chow mix attacked him. Wells was scratched on the leg by the dog, but not bitten.

He says he tried to fight off the dog with his flashlight, and even the owner could not call the dog off. Finally the officer shot the dog, which ran away.

DCP officials say they are not sure if the dog survived, but they cleared the officer in a use of force investigation.
