Alcohol will continue to flow despite long fight

December 17, 2002

Albany - Alcohol sales will continue at Albany businesses, but not at one troubled bar. City commissioner fought for 3 hours Tuesday night over the blanket renewal of alcohol licenses.

Commissioners renewed the alcohol licenses of all city businesses except Topps Corner Bar, a spot police say is known for trouble. A vote to renew the alcohol licenses including Topps Corner failed by a narrow margin. Then came another vote to revoke Topps Corner's license and pass all other businesses. Only Jon Howard and David Williams voted against that in the end. Arthur Williams abstained.

Topps Corner Bar Attorney Joe Vaknin says his client plans to appeal the revocation of her license. She can continue to sell alcohol until December 31st.
