ATLANTA, GA (WALB) - Next year the state will have another college football team when the Georgia State Panthers take the field.

The Panthers football program is off to a great start.

The Colonial Athletic Association announced Thursday the Georgia State football program will be admitted to Colonial Athletic Association.

The GSU athletic programs have been competing in the CAA for the past four years.

The CAA is one of the top football conferences in the Football Championship Division with four national titles in the last ten years.

GSU football coach Bill Curry knows the CAA will give his program credibility and a big challenge.

Bill Curry said. "If you look at William & Mary, Richmond, James Madison, Delaware and on and on and on, then it is prestigious in terms of the football teams. So, it is a great plus for Georgia State to be a part of that. It gives us an awful lot to aspire to."

Georgia State will play as an independent in 2010 and 2011 and will play CAA conference schedule starting 2012.
