LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - The General Assembly and Governor approved 18-public library construction projects for the upcoming fiscal year. Two are in southwest Georgia.

Those projects are in Lee and Thomas Counties.

On Wednesday the SOWEGA Public Library Directors and Library Boards of Trustees thanked area legislators who supported the projects.

Lee County will get nearly two million dollars for a new library and conference center.

"We don't have any place in Lee County to meet that could hold 400 people our new place will be able to hold a conference of any sort," Ed Duffy, Lee Co. Commission Chair.

"We'll have an expansion in Thomas County, Thomasville at 1.6 million dollars it's a 3.2 million dollar total project," said Sen. John Bulloch, (R) Ochlocknee.

The 1.6-million dollars for Thomas county and the two million for Lee county will be matched by the county commissions.

Lee county is looking for a location for the new library.
