ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Sherwood Christian Academy says it was worth the wait to name Reginald Mitchell as the Eagles head football coach.

Mitchell accepted the job last week but the school waited until his resignation at Albany High was made official.

Sherwood Christian Academy headmaster Dr. Glen Schultz says what impressed the Eagles the most about their new coach is that he not only was teaching his players at Albany High how to be good players but also how to be good citizens when they leave high school.

Mitchell knows the timing of his leaving Albany High is not good but it was not a decision he made lightly.

Reginald Mitchell said. "This was a very thought out decision. I didn't take it lightly. I knew that it was somewhat late in the season, or in the year. I told the guys I am always going to be their coach. I just have to move on to another assignment."

Reginald Mitchell takes over for Ted "Rock" Knapp who stepped down due to his cancer treatments.

Sherwood Christian is hosting a cookout for parents and students to meet their new football coach Thursday at 6:30 p.m..
