ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The search is officially on for a new head football coach at Albany High.

After the school board accepted the resignation of Albany High football coach Reginald Mitchell to become the head coach at Sherwood Chrstian Academy, Dougherty County School System athletic director Johnny Seabrooks says applications for an interim head coach for the Indians will be taken through June 29th.

With the hopes a interim head coach can be hired by the July board meeting.

Until then Seabrooks says one of the assistant coaches will run the team through their summer workouts.

Johnny Seabrooks said. "In the process now of asking one of the assistant coaches to step into that position and handle summer workouts. So, those athletes don't lose so much time and have some direction on which way they are going. Especially in conditioning because that is what summer is about conditioning."

Seabrooks says the interim head coach will be considered for the full time job after the season.
