ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  Turner County has played in the state championship game for two straight years and has settled for two consecutive state runner-up finishes.

One of the coaches who beat them in the state finals will try to take the Rebels program to a state championship.

Whitefield Academy boys basketball coach Tyrone Johnson has been hired as the new head boys basketball coach.

Johnson not only won the Class A state title in 2009 at Whitefield.

He also led them to a state title in 2003.

Johnson takes over a Turner County program that has made three straight final four appearances.

He takes over for Eric Holland who was named head coach at Tift County Hight last month.

Johnson has won two state titles at Whitefield while the Rebels have been state runner-up the past two years under Eric Holland.

Holland was hired last month to be the head basketball coach at Tift County High.
