ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It is official. Albany High is now looking for a new head football coach.

Sherwood Christian Academy has a new head football coach.

The Dougherty County Board of Education has accepted the resignation of Albany High football coach Reginald Mitchell at their Monday meeting.

Mitchell is leaving to take the head coaching job at Sherwood Christian.

Sherwood Christian holding off on making a formal announcement until after Mitchell's resignation, which was tendered on Wednesday, was formally accepted by the school board.

Mitchell was 2-28 in three seasons of a massive rebuilding effort at Albany High.

The timing is not great for Dougherty County School System athletic director Johnny Seabrooks who says he will begin looking for an interim head coach for Albany High Tuesday.

Mitchell takes over for Ted "Rock" Knapp.

Knapp stepped down in late April saying he was physically unable to handle the physical demands of coaching due to his cancer treatments.
