OCILLA, GA (WALB) - One man is dead and another behind bars after Georgia Bureau Investigators say an argument escalated to murder in Ocilla.
Ocilla Police say that 48-year-old Charles Wilber Behren was stabbed multiple times. He was transported to the Irwin County Hospital, and that was where he died from his injuries.
Crime scene tape was tied around the stair banisters of an apartment building at 114 South Beech Street. The homicide took place in Apartment A. GBI said that was where 43-year-old Timothy Royal stabbed Behren several times.
Investigators are not saying what kind of knife was used or what Royal or Behren were arguing about, but they do say alcohol was involved.
"We are securing the crime scene, and still processing a few things. We still have to do some additional interviews," said Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Craig Rotter. "And once that is all complete, we will release the crime scene and get the case filed to the District Attorney's office for their review."
Timothy Royal is in police custody in the Irwin County Jail. Investigators tell us Royal did not try to resist arrest. In fact he was the one to call police and was at the scene when they arrived.
43-year-old Timothy Royal is now facing murder charges. This is the first murder in the city of Ocilla in about two years. The last homicide occurred in 2007.
