VSU golfer wins Nicklaus Award

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Valdosta State's Brent Witcher has been awarded the Jack Nicklaus Award which is given to the top player at the  Division II level.

Witcher was presented the award prior to the final round of the PGA Tour's Memorial Tournament Sunday in Dublin, Ohio.

Brent Witcher finished in the top five of five spring tournaments and won two of the them.

The former Darton College golfer also won the Gulf South Conference player of the year and All-American honors for a second straight year.

Witcher is the second VSU golfer to win the Nicklaus Award.

Current PGA tour member Briny Baird was the first in 1994.
