Tift - The man killed in that chase on the Interstate yesterday is believed to been a gasoline thief.
Nineteen-year-old James Lee Ham, the third of Chesapeake, Virginia, was killed when his car crashed on I-75 in Tift County.
Investigators say Ham's description matches the man who had pumped 10 dollars and 69 cents worth of gas into his car at Williams Travel Center in Cordele and drove off without paying.
When police tried to stop him, he took off. The chase stretched through Crisp, Turner and Tift Counties and reached up to 100 miles per hour.
When a Turner County deputy bumped Ham's car to stop it, he crashed, was thrown out and killed.
