Man banned from preparing taxes

December 12, 2002

MONTEZUMA - A Montezuma man who promised hundreds of people tax credits for being descendants of slaves is barred from preparing tax returns. Willie Henry Haugabook admits to promising slave reparations to 384 people. All together, Haugabook promised $18 million he knew the IRS would never pay.

Montezuma police say there will be no local charges against Haugabook, but a similar investigation continues into Morris James, another Montezuma man who promised slave reparations.
