WSGA Amateur a favorite tournament for Allen

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Women's Southern Golf Amateur being played at the Stonebridge Country Club this week is a special event for club golf professional Rob Allen.

That is because Rob Allen's grandmother is a former champion.

Allen's grandmother Mary Coachman Rogers won the Southern Women's Amateur in 1935.

This week, Rob has the silver plate and framed photo of his late grandmother on display in the Stonebridge pro shop.

Allen says his late grandmother is a big reason why he loves the game and became a club professional.

Rob Allen said. "I remember her having me out at the golf course as far back as I can remember. Playing golf as child even high school and as a professional."

Allen is also carrying a gold coin his grandmother received for her win 64 years ago.
