Cairo-- The mistrial means that 59-year-old Martha Ann Johnson will be re-tried next year for the murder of 45-year-old James Edward Herring.

The Grady County jury began deliberations Wednesday, and shortly after resuming Thursday, they told the judge they were hopelessly deadlocked.

Herring was stabbed to death in June and was found on the back steps of Johnson's trailer.

Johnson previously served time for voluntary manslaughter in Grady County. She was released from prison on that conviction in 1988.
