AXSON, GA (WALB) - An Atkinson County teen died Tuesday night when he drowned in his family's pond.
Emergency crews were called out to Cooper Lane in Axson, in eastern Atkinson County, around 8:15. According to Atkinson County Coroner David White, first responders found the 18-year-old man unresponsive at the bottom of a pond located in front of his family's home.
Witnesses told officials the victim had been under the water for 15 to 20 minutes.
The case remains under investigation but appears to have been an accidental drowning. The victim's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
