Albany - Good news for allergy sufferers. The widely used drug, Claritin, is now available without a prescription. You can buy the antihistamine over the counter.

Claritin is now the only once daily, non-drowsy allergy relief drug available without a trip to the doctor. And, the cost of the medicine should start dropping soon.

"We trust this drug," said Dr. Charles Rouse, The Medicine Man Corner. "When a drug becomes available over the counter, the price drops dramatically."

Dr. Rouse reminds Claritin users that you should still see a doctor if your allergy symptoms continue for more than a few weeks. In this case, you may also need an antibiotic.
