ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Family and friends turned out Sunday to bid farewell to an Albany Police detective who's on his way to Afghanistan.
This is Captain Michael Persley's third deployment with the 48th Brigade.
He says it never gets easier leaving his family and friends behind but he has his own way of dealing with the stresses of being in a war zone.
"I keep a sense of humor, I call home regularly, and when it's needed, which is daily, I have a talk with God," Capt. Michael Persley, Army National Guard.
Persley's mission will be to train police in Afghanistan.
He leaves next week for Mississippi, and will spend a week there before deploying.
