The unemployment rate in the Southwest Georgia region declined to 8.2 percent in April, down two-tenths of a percentage point from 8.4 percent in March. The rate was 8.8 percent in April a year ago.More >>

A woman who tried to rob a South Georgia Post Office last month surrenders.
Thirty-six-year-old Paula Bloodsworth was denied bond, and remains in the Colquitt County Jail, after turning herself in last week.
She is charged with criminal attempt to commit an armed robbery.
Investigators said Bloodsworth, armed with a pistol, entered the post office in Ellington, just east of Moultrie, on November 25th. She wore a mask, but ran when a customer came inside. A witness saw her face when she took off the mask, and police found a gun at her boyfriend's home.
No money was taken, so no federal charges were filed. Bloodsworth is also charged with possession of methamphetamine.
