VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - A convicted felon, charged with owning the firearm that killed a young Valdosta boy is behind bars tonight.

Twenty-nine-year-old Wilmer Cedric Nelson was arrested around 8:15 Wednesday night.

He was riding in a car that was pulled over for a routine traffic stop on Charter Oaks Drive in Valdosta.

Police had been searching for Nelson since the gun he illegally possessed was used in the accidental shooting of 7 year old Ali Gillard on May 18th. Gillard was shot by his ten year old brother.

Nelson is now in the Lowndes County Jail, charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
